SEAL AA500 AutoAnalyzers

  • WBAS operates two AA500 systems—a five-channel system and a three-channel system. 
  • Our AutoAnalyzers support nutrient analysis in freshwater, river water, seawater, porewater, and other aqueous samples across a salinity range of 0–35. Available analyses include:
    • Ammonium
    • Nitrate and nitrite
    • Phosphate
    • Silica
    • Total nitrogen and total phosphorus

Agilent 5800 Inductively Coupled Plasma–Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES): 

  • It provides rapid, reliable multi-element analysis across a wide range of sample types, including:
    • Sediments and soils
    • Plant tissues
    • Water samples and environmental extracts
    • Selected industrial materials and chemical products.
  • For soils, sediments, and similar solid matrices, we offer acid digestion based on EPA Method 3050B. Other sample types are prepared using matrix-specific digestion or extraction procedures.
CHN Elemental Analyzer

CHN Elemental Analyzer

  • Our CHN elemental analyzer is currently configured for the determination of:  
    • Total Carbon (TC)

    • Total Nitrogen (TN)

    • Total Organic Carbon (TOC)
  • Carbon and nitrogen analyses are based on EPA Method 440.0. For TOC analysis, inorganic carbon is removed before combustion analysis following established acid-fumigation methods described by Hedges and Stern (1984).

  • This system is configured for measuring %N %H and %C in a variety of samples types including soils, sediments, plants, and other environmental samples.
Shimadzu TOC-L Analyzer

Shimadzu TOC-L Analyzer

  • This system provides carbon and nitrogen analysis for a wide range of environmental waters
  • Depending on sample preparation, we can measure:
    • Filtered samples: dissolved organic carbon (DOC), dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), and total dissolved nitrogen (TDN)
    • Unfiltered samples: total organic carbon (TOC), total inorganic carbon (TIC) and total nitrogen (TN)
  • For unfiltered samples containing suspended particles, we have an external mixing probe gently bubbling the next sample to maintain homogeneity and minimize particle settling before injection.

  • It provides rapid, high-precision measurement of:
    • Dissolved nitrogen gas (N₂)
    • N₂:Ar ratios
    • Dissolved oxygen (O₂)

     for a wide range of environmental waters. 

Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS)

 Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS)

  • Our Sercon system combines EA-IRMS and CryoPrep-IRMS for carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis.
  • EA-IRMS measures δ¹³C, δ¹⁵N, C%, and N% in prepared samples, including soils, sediments, plants, animal tissues, and selected liquids absorbed onto a suitable carrier. 
  • CryoPrep-IRMS supports isotope analysis of CO₂ and N₂ gas samples.
DMA-80 Direct Mercury Analyzer

DMA-80 Direct Mercury Analyzer

  • It measures total mercury (Hg) in soil, sediment, plant material, water, and biological tissues, including fish and crab tissues. 
  • The instrument heats each sample to release mercury, then captures and measures it by atomic absorption. This allows direct analysis without acid digestion.

  • Our Thermo Scientific Dionex Integrion HPIC separates and measures dissolved ions in environmental water samples. Depending on the analytical method, ion chromatography can quantify anions such as chloride, nitrate, nitrite, sulfate, and bromide in freshwater, porewater, and other aqueous samples

Chlorophyll a Analysis

  • We have two Turner Designs fluorometers—the TD-700 and Trilogy—to measure chlorophyll a in freshwater and marine samples. 
  • Our analysis is based on EPA Method 445.0, with calibration standards, blanks, and replicates for QA/QC

  • Our GC analyzes carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O) to support greenhouse gas research.

Thermo Electron Helios UV-Vis spectrophotometer Gamma model measures how much ultraviolet and visible light a liquid sample absorbs.

Thermo Scientific Orion 370 pH meter measures pH in water samples and prepared soil or sediment slurries
