LSU INSIGHT
LSU INSIGHT is a new interactive mapping tool that brings LSU’s statewide impact into clear focus. Developed in partnership with Felt and Lightcast, the platform offers data-informed insights into where LSU graduates live and work, what industries they serve, and how they contribute to Louisiana’s economy and communities.
USING THE MAP
LSU INSIGHT is powered by a comprehensive dataset developed in 2024 through a partnership with Lightcast, a national leader in labor market analytics. By matching alumni records from all six LSU degree-granting campuses to a national database of professional profiles, LSU identified career and earnings outcomes for more than 106,000 alumni from 1990 to 2024.
Additional data comes from trusted public sources, including the Louisiana Board of Regents and the Louisiana Workforce Commission, providing a well-rounded look at educational and economic trends.
Alumni Density: displays the current residential locations of LSU alumni. Users can view alumni distribution by state, Louisiana region, or parish using the interactive slider in the legend.
Economic Impact: Represents the annual economic impact of each LSU campus by region and parish, as reported in the 2023 LSU Economic Impact Report.
Enrollment: Displays campus-specific headcount enrollment for Fall 2024, sourced from the Louisiana Board of Regents Statewide Student Profile System.
Degrees Awarded: Represents the number of graduates at each LSU campus for the 2023–2024 academic year, based on data from the Louisiana Board of Regents Statewide Completers System.
High-Yield Degrees indicates the percentage of degrees awarded at an LSU campus in the 2023-2024 academic year linked to high-wage, high-demand occupations in Louisiana, as defined by the LWC’s 4- and 5-Star Jobs classification.
Homegrown Talent Retention displays the percentage of campus alumni currently employed in Louisiana who also resided in Louisiana prior to earning their degree.
Average Alumni Earnings: Reflects overall average earnings for LSU Alumni.
Averge Earnings for Alumni Employed in Field: Reflects average earnings of alumni currently employed in a field related to their
degree.
Earnings estimates are based on each profile’s Standard Occupation Code (SOC) and
their current geographic location. Lightcast determines field alignment by comparing
the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code of the degree to the SOC code
of the job, using a proprietary CIP-SOC crosswalk.
Top Employers and Industries: Highlights the top companies and industries employing LSU alumni.
- Industry is classified using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), matched with the SOC of the individual’s most recent job.
- Employer is based on the standardized name of the most recent employer listed on the alumni’s public profile.
Note: Totals may not equal the full number of alumni observations per geography, as these fields depend on information self-reported in individual profiles.
